I have an iPhone with the TomTom app...
To use these files, do I need an alternative app? If so, what? If not, where are there destructions for uploading...?

TomTom doesn't allow for route loading...
(Unless you have the expensive Motorbike versions))

As per previous post (lazy sod!) The routes uploaded are in .itn forma for use with TYRE ( http://www.tyretotravel.com/ )

I recommend the use of Sygic ( http://www.sygic.com/gps-navigation ) on Android (or iPhone???) for actual GPS use - it has great additions, such as 'sharp corner warnings'.
You can use ITN Converter ( http://www.benichou-software.com/ ) to convert to Sygic format (use Sygic GPS Navigation 13 & 14 .itf format).

Hi Col you should be able to load itn files on the TomTom. I used to use the ITN converter and load them on my very old TomTom. Sorry not used the Iphone build. As Eugene says download Sygic, its even free for a week.

Convert the files to Sygic format and you can sync them on the iPhone if you have an icloud account or I used Dropbox. Sygic Settings turn on cloud service, if using Dropbox you give the login,password etc. Go to Dropbox and you will see an Apps folder,navigate to Apps, Sygic All regions, Res, itinerary folder and put the itf files in there.
Restart Sygic and it should now find the routes and show them in your favourites.
Once synced you can then turn off the cloud service....

As Donut says, older versions of TomTom do allow routes...
But most new versions, and the 'App' versions do not

Go with Sygic - it is bloody cheap too!

Well done for explaining how to do it. my sat nav has failed to load any of our le man trips and i have had to rely on the last man looking out for the 7 behind.
Seems not everyone follows this rule but to be fair we all get there in the end.
I will try again with loading the sat nav as above but failing that i am going to punch its lights out and attach my self to the voo doo rope
