I have a problem with my hearing right now. Nothing major but a ringing in my right ear. Been applying ear drops incase it is blocked and now I guess it might just take some time. So I'm wonder if an alternative to earplugs would be a good idea for a while at least till it settles down..... Ok I know aeroscreens and ear defenders don't look the part but does anyone have experience of this. I was considering something like: https://www.screwfix.com/p/howard-leight-sync-1030111-stereo-ear-defenders-31db-snr/2 548h

Any suggestions.

Gulp... no experience of these things but have seen 3M Peltor units recommended frequently elsewhere. Worth a Look?

Cheers Chris, had not thought of noise cancelling headphones? Would you say they kept the wind noise down to similar levels as normal foam earplugs? If these do the trick and I assume would have a better sound. Anyone else ever tried these?

In the grand scam of things they are quieter than the foam plugs an if you have a little back ground music it's better .when you get to really high speeds you will still hee the car making that awful noise .

Agree with Unc.
Noise cancelling headsets take away the external frequencies (ie engine and wind noise) that (a) can damage your hearing and (b) are detrimental to concentration and cause fatigue. The Bose versions are expensive and fairly top of the line - they invented the technology where a signal 180 degrees opposed to the incoming signal is generated so that the incoming sound is effectively cancelled out.

However, there are now dozens of versions out there from other manufacturers that do the job nicely. Plug or Bluetooth into your phone and off you go. Doesn't in any way detract from your road awareness, but certainly reduces fatigue and noise.

I worked for a while for a company that installed this technology onto high-end biz jets. Smooth flying baby!!!! x

Cheers Hedge, will do a little research and look to buy a set set for the trip. For a long trip like this it seems a better idea than stuffing earplugs in everyday when I know my right ear is sensitive right now.

Ok have purchased some wireless noise cancelled headphones. Not the top of the line Sony or Bose but still very good reviews.
Results are um... good but not perfect. Maybe I was expecting just too much.
At medium volume they work well, to a point. Below 60-80 mph all ok and the noise cancelling does help. Much above this and I think the shear volume of wind noise overwhelms the headphones. I guess there is only so much they can do. If you turn the volume up full it helps but eventually at full volume (and high wind noise) the sound starts to break up.
At this point I guess you are just trying to fight so much noise with more noise? In a car with a screen and doors maybe would work perfectly, but with aeros I think its just eventually too much.
Will still use them on the trip (not all of it will be flat out) and they seem to be comfortable to where.
