Ok, I've been using Yoko A021R tyres for years, but as we all know they are no longer road legal...
With Eugene I prefer 185/70/13 tyres - they handle far better on an older 7, and I need the ride hight as we do a lot of fast road miles.

But, the actual question is, what compound to go for with the Kumho v70's?

I know all you reprobates in Le BOG Club would simply say soft, or even super soft, and smile wide until the tread ran out...

But, I'm trying to be a bit more thoughtful on what's best for fast road use, especially with all the hard miles we will be doing in the summer across/around France...

I guess the choice is soft or medium?
(As most will know, Eugene is a 210BHP Zetec, with Ital live axle, and wide-track front.)

Yes they are road legal. but you do need to inform your insurance company you are using them on the road as they are primarily a track tyre. and the E mark on track tyres is really so you can use them to and from a race track.

Yes the Kumho V70a is still road legal but in that size we have no stock and non due until the beginning of March.

Mmmm - seems 70 profile are a bit like rocking-horse ****...
So, what alternatives?
Should I just go 60 profile???
What about 60 profile 185/60 13 NANKANG NS2R? They are a lot cheaper too...

Have a look at the Uniroyal rain expert 3 l had a word with polley motorsport to see what was road legal and good in wet and dry .tread pattern is close to the 21 but not the same .side wall is flexible so good ride on light car .?Have a look. Polley are going to ring tomorrow with price ..

Not really a fan of the Rainexpert 3's - been a lot of varied reviews on them.
(Google comes up with a lot of comments, some ok, many poor...)

May just wait for the Kumho's to come back into stock
(The suggestion is they will be available in 1 to 2 months...)

Eugene the wait for the Kumho's is worth it.
My time round a wet Llandow track on soft compound Kumho's was getting close to the lap time of slicks.

I had this problem, last year, I tried the kumho's, were hard to get - they grip OK but only have about 5mm of tread [ compared to ~10mm on Yoko a021's,]
I got Hard compound, which I'd say was similar to ao21's, they didn't inspire confidence in wet like Ao21's do. & they only lasted 600miles on rear, Ao21's normally lasted about 1100miles on rear [4500on front.]
I would've tried Nankangs but they are only available in 60 section in 13" [too low to use on my car]
Another alternative which I'm planning this year is normal 165x13"s plenty of choice/makes in this size, [and this was the size originally fitted to my car when new]
