To honour our little brewery tour (thank you again Big Col) tonight I started a little ESB style home-brew.

I'm sure it will not be a patch on the real thing, but hopefully a nice pint....

Should be Pale Ale, Crystal and Chocolate malts and then Target and Goldings as bittering hops, more Goldings, Northdown and Challenger for aroma plus some hops (Target/Goldings again) during maturation (and fermentation?) plus, of course, Fuller's yeast!
but as you say, as long as it's a nice pint...!
Pity it won't be ready for the AGM!

Cheers Col, umm interesting. Starts with Crystal malt and Challenger, Target and Northdown Hops, then Goldings added for aroma at the end of the boil. As its a partial mash its then bulked out with light spray malt. Not a pint I've tried before but first impressions are good. SG of 1.054 hopefully end up around 5.5%. Will not be ready for the AGM but hopefully a pint or two at Xmas time.....

Well Bog club ESB is doing nicely.

Yeasties are just about done (SG down to 1012) and had a little sample just for quality control and yep seems good. As I'm not in a hurry I'll let it sit at 20'C till the weekend (let the nice little yeast cells completely finish and clean up). Then leave it at cellar temps for another week or cold crash it in the fridge to clear before racking off to a cask. If I can wait till Xmas I'll let it age for a couple of weeks but longer would be better.
I'll bottle a few pints in the new year and bring them along to the moon and stars meeting if anyone would like a sample....

Always need to check the Green beer...!
Sounds good - ESB matures for a couple of weeks and a bit of yeast is added back in, together with some Target/Goldings during this bit.
Keep enough back to allow a "professional" opinion from me (and I'll bring some bottles to allow a comparison!)

Well the BOG club ESB has come out rather nice.
ebb
A little darker colour than the real thing on the left. Maybe due to boiling the extract, and a slight chill haze (need to chill the wort quicker next time for the cold break).
Taste is really good. A little more hop bitterness and missing a bit of the sweetness of the real brew but over all a very nice pint.

Don't worry I'll put a few pints to one side for the next get together and..... sounds like I need to get the next brew on. Maybe BOG club IPA....
