Squealing brake pads

Recently put new Mintex 1411 pads (and shoes) on Eugene.
They brake really well, but boy do the pads squeal!

I have used the supplied sticky pads on the back of the pads, and used a lot of copper slip (and removed the pads and re-applied...)
Not a lot of change.

So, what else can I try?
Is using the sticky pad on the rear of the pad wrong?
(I guess they may be stopping the pad 'slipping' as required???)

Thoughts?

Mintex M1144 brake pads are great but do squeal at braking speeds under 30mph

There are the following options -
  • Anti squeal shims are available at around £3.50 + Vat per pack from Hi Spec.
  • Pull the pads out and clean them up, smear a good 2mm coating of silicone sealant on the back. Let this set over night and replace.
  • Replace with Ferodo DS2500 brake pads, the same performance but no squeal

For a quick and easy fix, fit two hack saw blades into a hack saw, cut two swallow slots in the pads at 90 degrees to rotation, approx 3/32 inch deep. Refit with copperslip on the back. That should do the trick.

I'll go with ncle Albert's option. Worked for me on a BMW in the past. Relax, back then, I never new how much more fun a lightweight was...

I went with Uncle Albert's suggestion, plus removed the 'sticky pad' on the back of the brake pads...
So far, it works!!!

Anyone want to elaborate on the correct use of copper slip?

It was suspected to be the cause of many er... "lady area" infections in teenage girls, during the early 90's.

Studies have shown that it only seemed to effect those who had mechanic boyfriends......

......something to do with copper slip under the nails

So, latex gloves, and don't put copper slip on the front of the pad!!!
