A few folks are struggling with posting pics, so I thought perhaps this small piece maybe of some help.

1) Where is the picture you want to show currently stored?.

If the image is sat on your PC, or other electronic devices you will need to upload that to your favourite image web hosting site. There are many out there from the freebe sites to paying / signed up for ones. The main difference being that with paying/ signed up ones they will retain your images forever ( or at least as long as their server stays alive), whereas the free ones in general terms only host the picture for as long as the picture is accessed, in other words if you host a pic on a freebe site and no one looks at it for a certain period the pic will be deleted. So if you are going to use a free site always check out what this time period is, on busy forums a picture may well stay active for years...

If your picture is sat on an already existing web host we will come to that shorty, but if the image you want to show is just one from the web, you really need to download it then re-upload it, the reason being that if you simply copy the URL of the image and post it on here, you are what they call hotlinking which is frowned upon in web servers eyes, because you are using their bandwidth for your gains, then of course there could be a copyright issue as well, which we won't be covering here just now.


2) The codes and sizing

Now you have your photo on the webhost, you now need to get the code for that image, now many hosts have different ways in which you do this so do read the info on that site if your are unsure,also depending on the host the size you choose can be done either before the upload process or after, again please check out the host for that.

This forum Auto resizes the photo to prevent the entire screen being filled and messing up the format of the forum, your picture will be shown in perhaps a smaller version than that you choose in the upload process, do not worry as simply clicking on the picture will see it in its true size.

The image code MUST be that of the image URL location on the webhost, not just to an album or a website for instance , an example would of what it should look like is this

( I have edited out the "T's" in HTTP to show you what you need to be looking for, otherwise it will put an unline underneath it and just make it a "live" link but won't show the image, you will leave the "T's in )



Lots of webhosts put additional code in to make the image show, but because all forums are different the additional code is not needed on this forum, simply giving the actual location of the photo is enough, the forum will then insert its own code to get the image to show..

3) Posting the link

In the above URL example ( hXXp://www.the-webbs.com/upper%20sill%20protector.jpg ) produces this.






To get to that stage press the CAMERA icon ( Top left of the posting bit 3rd button from the left) Paste the code you have into the popup box that will appear when you press the Camera button, you will find an example already filled in, delete this as that is just to show you what the format should look like, press OK and then fill in the description of the image - ie Sill Protector in the next box that will appear, finally click "OK" to post.

All things being equal your image should now show up on the forum, but to save you any hassle you can press the "Preview" button BEFORE submitting the post just to confirm of what the post will look like with the codes in place, any mistakes can be put right before the post goes public.

If when you use the 'camera' pop-up - if you don't post an image URL into it (you forget, and just leave what is there already) you will get...

With some image sites, such as 'Flickr' it can take a few steps to get to the actual 'image URL'...

To view the image you want in flickr, right click the initially presented image (which is actually a 'page' at this point) to get the options for the various sizes.
Then select the size you want to use...
Next, right click again on the image and select 'View Image' from the 'Windows' drop-down list of options.
That will then directly open the image on its own - no 'flickr' stuff around the displayed image, so it is obvious you now have just the image.
The URL that is then displayed in the browser URL window is what you place into the 'BB Code for Picture Insertion' option (the button that looks like a small camera).

I could have written a more simple explanation such as do A then B and then C, but then you won't know why you're doing it. As is mentioned above all image hosts have varying ways of getting that URL correct, so do take a while to check that out, once you have done it, you will wonder why you ever had issues in the first place.

If you're having problems posting pics check which browser ur using, initial instructions assumed you were using 'Firefox' I was using IE so no chance. Had loadsa fun trying though - honest

They were yes, why are there more.......?... just kidding. I haven't used IE since 1998, has it improved yet, it needed to back in those days.

A coupla years ago I tried A browser called Chrome [I think] biggest waste of time ever - it also downloaded plenty of other crap which altered loadsa settings on the PC and required me to re-install Windows to get it working properly again, since then anything free in download stakes gets a' thanks but no thanks' from Me.

Have you ever tried Linux?

There has been much written already about the differences, a quick search using your fav engine will find those to save me writing it all out again , yes, I have tried many Linux distro's over the years whilst they are all open source coding, and therefore dependant on the users writing their own drivers for devices, I have found that if you have the latest video card for example the drivers are not compatible, or rather some are but do not give the user the full control that you may have had otherwise. An example would be in this case, that you were unable to set the correct resolution, the same thing happened on a soundcard I had once as well, which was unable to set a 5.1 config. I hate microsoft personally, but the problem is the manufacturers will not write software for Linux because M'soft has the market share, Linux is by far the better product but windows is more popoular... Remember the old betamax V's VHS war... This is the same.

Mal, I use Firefox as well - it is simply superior to IE in just about all respects.

I actually have IE, Firefox and Chrome on all my PCs.
Firefox is the one I choose to use just about all the time.

A personal choice, but as someone who does a lot of browsing, etc, I do find it simply better.
