A brief story of my 7

Not really a bragging post as I don't consider my car to be anything special in terms of being fast or light, but it's special to me. This is just a very brief story of my 7.

I have had the car for 6 years now and did a "all bar body off " rebuild, car was in "Prisoner" colours when I got it, but wanted a change, car runs the old Crossflow 1600 with twin webers, type 9 gearbox and a live rear end ( some luxury compared to Triumph's rear suspension !!) 13 inch rims with the WF supplied alloy AP 4 pot conversion and discs, with alloy hubs, just in the process of using up the Yoko A048's for normal road tyres, the 48's aren't great in wet weather - don't ask how i know, but two trashed rims at the local tip can testify this !!, after buying the car and seeing many many issues, cosmetically it looked fine, but the mechanicals were trashed, the funny groove in the steering wheel should have been a giveaway when i first viewed the car but it was some months later I discovered that the car was used for auto testing , the groove being where the ball thing was fitted so I went and stripped the car a week after purchase, something that I would regret big time in the months to come cash wise, I spent a stupid amount on some Nitron shocks for example ( had a dumb idea about going racing again - only to discover the bank's computer said "NO"), the reason i bought the car was that during my racing times, I was constantly being beaten by 7's , so decided to find out why, the first 30 secs of the test drive told me why !!!

Word of advice for folks who like the odd tipple of their favourite drink in the evenings before bedtime, never ever browse the internet on car websites ( or any other websites for that matter !!) whilst your bank card is at hand , yes I made the classic mistake of having the odd drink (OK, it may have been a bottle of red), then finding some goodies from Westfield online shop... I bought what seemed like every part on every page, well if my bank statement was anything to go by I might as well have done !!... all the parts turned up , well almost all ( we won't go there !!) and a few weeks later got a new MOT and was on the road, I had back then an aeroscreen ( bought on some drunken evening) whilst the car was good fun in this config, together with all the other " go faster parts " WF sent me but it soon became apparent that rain really hurts when it hits your face at even just 30mph, wearing my old helmet cured this, but this put me into "race" mode for some dumb reason and I drove the car far harder all the time ( which, wishing to keep my licence I thought a bad idea) - I had spent 10 years prior to getting the 7 sprinting and hillclimbing in a classic sports car, so putting a helmet on when driving a car was race mode for me , as well as the rain the wind was a pain in the neck, quite literally sometimes, so I tried to find my old full windscreen that the car came with, no amount of searching could see me finding this , then it clicked one day I gave it to a mate of a mate who was building a locost - DOH.... Mananged to find one on fleabay, but I did not want the Westfield supplied one as that is a shorter one and I was always looking at the top frame rather than the glass beneath it, not sure what frame / screen I ended up with but whatever it was it is a tad too wide or rather the right width but wrong profile scuttle, I modded the brackets to suit ( as can be seen) , not perhaps to everyone's taste if your looking for perfection within the marque, but hell it's my car and I can now see glass when seated and not the alloy top rail ( yes I had tried with no seat at all before fitting the areo, but I must be an odd ball because the rail was still at eye level). Just last year I made a half roof, and more recently just completed a rear section to it to turn the whole thing into a full hood, the car never came with a hood ( well it did, but what was left of it wasn't worth saving) so driving the car with a full hood on was such a transformation from running open all the time, getting in and out is a pain, as well as the added noise, I had been meaning to look at the silencer anyway as this was loud, I mean REALLY loud, it was no wonder it was loud, having opened it up there was nothing left in it, just an empty cam and a perforated tube in the middle, which could be clearly seen. Got some new wadding and now the car is great, all I can hear now is the induction from the Webers, which I need to look at now by making a box up instead of just the foam filters I currently have. I may even go as far as fitting a heater , yeah ok stop laughing now, all I will say is I have seen the best years of my life quite some years ago, I could do with some "home comforts" these days......

Anyway, that's a very brief history of the car, pics should be below ( if I have done it right), hope you all have some great days out before winter. I have some more plans for the car but as always with everyone these days, it's cash that is now the limiting factor, so here's to eating beans again to buy some new parts

Safe driving everyone.
