Does anyone use gaiters on either the front or rear springs?, I remember way back when noah was a lad, that motorbikes always used gaiters to protect the springs and main stem/ oil seals.. Living in a seaside town, I have to remove the springs about once every two or three years because despite buying the best paint I could find, no matter what I do results in the springs getting really rusty and looking, .. well a bit crap, not to mention the sand that gets blown up from the beach on windy days, possibibily reducing the seals life.. Always wanting to have a presentable car I decided to made some up from some old soft top material I had left over from making it, so now the spring and stems are hidden below the gaiter, as its soft vinyl it compresses with the spring. The springs when brand new from Nitron lasted just 12 moths before a repaint was needed.....

anyone.... or am I being too anal for here

Camera batts are duff, but will upload at some point a pic.

Never heard of that before...
Not sure I'd need them being in-land, but being where you are I see the idea/need.

Do post a piccy!

Batteries still charging, grrrrr, look like it will be tomorrow now.

Yeah, maybe it's just my location, as steel rusts very quick in salt water., No I had never heard of either on a car, but my old bikes did have it and must have worked for them to have done it.... As "our" cars run fairly exposed (especially the fronts) springs, they are one of the first things to get hit by flying stuff from other cars etc as well, as I spent a stupid amount of cash on some Nitrons, I want to protect them for as long as I can, the alloy is ok, but the centre shaft is steel, as is the main spring.

Oh well, will post pic as soon as batteries are cooked.

Cheers.

Ok, here ya go, not everyone's cup of tea I grant you, but sick of looking at rusty springs !!, all it is a flat piece of faux leatherette wrapped around the top collar, with velcro to fasten it on, used a tie wrap as a belt and braces approach should my car suddendly develop 20 times the power and the Velco separates !!!.
