MoT failure

Caterham failed it's MoT yesterday on the emissions.

The HC & CO levels were way too high and sadly would not drop at all.

After some revs there is a slight pop & bang, nothing major however I'm guessing as the car has been laid up for several months the carbs possibly need cleaning?

Anything in particular I should be doing to get the emissions down? It's a 1999 Vauxhall 1600 variant with twin Webbers.

I would look at the actual jetting and idle setup.
It sounds like it's running rich, and normally dirty carbs cause the opposite?

After a number of attempts got the emmisions down by turning all four of the idle screws 1/2 turn clockwise.

Makes me think how it was so far off as it passed ok last year?

Slightly smokey now with a bit of revs but at least it has a ticket now. Ideally I think it needs to go on a rolling road with someone who knows what their doing!

Ah - that makes sense!
The best Weber rolling road is Peter Baldwin, Wilshers Garages.

Thanks Eugene.

Looks a top place but sadly a little too far.

I live near Swindon so anything nearer would be preferable.
