O k ,where would you start to improve the power of a k series 1.8 ,140 bhp with a power speed exhaust fitted.would throttle bodies and some cams/headwork help.
how much more would the 7 gain by these mods.
or, do you have to tinker with the bottom end too.
Where would i like to be, 180/200 if possible.

From what I remember, there are two 140 engines - SuperSport and X-Power. The latter uses less aggressive cams and a poor quality ally inlet manifold...
A plastic manifold suggests a SuperSport, with the better cams.
But, I think both can be upgrades to around 180bhp.

X power is mine but the x does not stand for extra would like to have it ready for le mans or i am going to need a tow with the voo do rope.

Why did you sell the R400 Paul? You seem to have bought a lower powered car and then want the same power as your R400

Long story but in a nut shell, i sold the 400 as i wasn't using it due to family reasons and work.
I had always said if my old car comes up for sale i would buy it.even when i owned the 400.
24 hours later it did so i brought it back.
So from 140 to 220 and now back to 140, i feel what harm can it do to squeeze a bit more.
So not , san and i had some great trips abroad and fun in both but the 140 was the first toy we could afford after bringing up the family.
so to us ,Its our 7.
Bit sentimental may be but hey ho, We are happy.

I used Jason Langan at Helier Engineering (works out of Janspeed in Salisbury) .. 200+ bhp, 35,000 miles and about 30 track days later and it's still not broken!

Also Paul, although I could be proved wrong (so I'll post it publically!!) you will probably have to do this in 2 stages, 1) get the exhaust and 2) get the engine done.
It would probably be a bit of a waste of upgrage funds to just take it in to someone to do it all turnkey.
So, again sticking my neck out here, you will need a 3-2-1 exhaust, probably by powerspeed as they have the drawings for a K series SV (they took them from Paul Allen's car a few years back) so you should be able to order one, and go and get it fitted when it's made. I doubt if there will be a better solution, and it is the absolute first step required for any upgrade.

So you can get that sorted pretty quickly!

Hmm, i have one of those power speed shinny things but i think its 4-2-1 with a cat fitted on the old girl now, i have tracked down some new in the box caterham throttle bodies so was thinking could i have these with some head work and ecu tinkering. guess this has got to help the old girl along and should give her a better sound track.

you sneaked that on quickly ... ecu 'tinkering' means a new ECU for you I think .. the next thing you need after the exhaust to get the thing going! snap the RBTB's up (if that's what they are) you need these as well!

Frank have been through this process with my 1.8K X power. RR session before any engine work but with Powerspeed 4-2-1 showed 133 bhp. I then spent more £ than I needed to by thinking 160-170 bhp would suffice, then realising twelve month later it wasn't. I now have 200 ish. Dave Andrews (DVA) did warn me of this before I started. If you intend to do any track days you will as a minimum need an Apollo tank etc or go Dry sump - like Hens Teeth now.

Both Jason & Dave build great engines and both are usually v busy with long lead times. I was with Dave a couple weeks ago and he said he is now booked through to November. He is also under severe pressure from SHMBO to retire this year.
