I use carbs purely as I wanted to keep the 7 close to the original spec I've had for years.
I like the fact that on a Zetec the engine still sounds like the old Xflow and Vegantune I had previously.

But, I see no issue with either.

Do you have any issues with the way it drives?

Is uncle Albert the best man to jet up a Zetec?

Eugene drives perfectly...

I do all my own carb set-up, including the ignition map for the Omex, which I have recently 'improved'.
Uncle Albert runs my 'improved' map too, with the same jetting I have.

The only benefit I guess injection would give may possible be better fuel economy???

I'm a lazy git with spanners and engine tweaking, so fuel injection for me
But I admire the lovely noise made by carbs

Power will be similar with carbs or tbs.
Its the cars driveability that a well mapped tb setup will improve. Fuel consumption will also be significantly better , from my experience a well steup tb engine will improve mpg by 40-50%.
The engine noise is similar if you have tbs fitted with rampipes and no air filter/box.
Most folks wont notice youve fitted tbs.
Imo its a no brainer Tbs everytime

What's a tbs?

Throttle Bodies...

But, I do not see anywhere near a 40-50% increase in mpg compared to my well set-up carbs.
Probably 5-7% - that's all.

And the same for drive ability - Eugene drives fantastically, all the way through the rev range, and in all gears.

And as for sound - nah, carbs always sound better!

Steeve, Assuming that you still have the jetting that you told me about a long time ago - how much of your drivability is down to set-up and how much down to the mapping?

Good question...

Without correct jetting any map is next to useless.
But, with good jetting, the map can seriously improve drive-ability.
The original map I made was very good - amazing performance - but there was always an issue with low speed drive-ability...
After some 'interesting' tests, driving around with the laptop on the passenger seat providing direct feedback on the map, I worked out where the issue was, and have since modified the map.
The results have been a great improvement in low-speed drive-ability.

Unfortunately it's the low speed drivability that's a pain at the moment
I have the Dunnell ECU running my Zetec and I don't think that there's much that I can do to it - it's very basic...
I was thinking about matching your jetting and seeing if there was any improvement.
Only differences we have are (yours in brackets): Main Jet 135 (140), Chokes 34 (36), Emulsion F4 (F16), Idle 50f8 (50f9).
Reckon changing will make any difference? (I bow to your greater knowledge )
Cheers

Do you have the 5 progression hole carbs?
If no, that's the first change to go for!
If yes, I would definitely look at the Emulsion and Idle jets.
The Choke may also be worth a look.
