Chaps, we need to get dates fixed for this...

So, what are the suggestions?

Once we have the dates we can define the actual content of the trip!

I'm free. How about 5th of July to the 12th and have pull off points if people can't stay the whole week

Yay, that works for me!
Will have to check if Sunday to Sunday is best, or if mid-week to mid-week works better - I'm thinking ferry costs, etc)

So - what are other's thoughts???

We do need to get planning!

Done a bit of homework...

Option 1
All St Malo and Caen boats are 6+ hour crossings. Weekdays are a bit cheaper. The pick of these looks like Caen: Depart Tuesday 7 July 8:15 (£119) return Tuesday 14 16:30 (£119)

Boats 1

Option 2
Cherbourg fast boats work out £30 extra each way. No price difference for weekday verses weekend. The pick looks like: Depart Monday 6 July 9:00 (£149) return Sunday 12 July 20:45 (£149)

Boats 1

Option 3
Le Havre prices the same as Cherbourg for fast boats, but depart times are very early AM.

Sum up
I've assumed there will be several hours driving after arriving in France, so have picked early boats. Plenty of mix-and-match options if we want to depart and return on different routes, with different trip lengths, etc., but then it all gets a bit complicated for little me.

Option 2 is my preference.

This is a route I am thinking of (just the stop-over points, NOT the actual roads!)

A Piccy

The though is to spend 1 night at the first stop - Suisse Normande.
2 Nights in and around 'Norman's' (Norm, how may can you sleep (without actually sharing beds!)?
And then 2 nights in and around Ile de Re...

Then a 2 day run back, using a different route.

Thoughts???

An alternative would be to not go so far south, and after Norm's head to Quiberon?
(On my proposed route map the island of Quiberon is just cut-off - you can see 'uiberon'...)

http://www.brittanytourism.com/discover-brittany/islands-and-headlands/quiberon

That would keep us away from any built-up areas...

Just a thought!

Looking at the suggested ferry times is a bit of a clue...

But, the idea is that there is no fixed duration - anyone can 'peel-off' at any time.
That's the gist of Uncle Albert's post!

Ferry prices and stop over prices can only go up !!!

So this is plan #2 (again, just the stop-over points, NOT the actual roads!)

A Piccy

Basically, the same as before, but probably 1 night each stop...
But as the distances are not great for each day we can easily change the actual overnight stops.

Thoughts???

This is the 'accurate' Suisse Normande route...
(I was bored, so have virtually driven the route on Tyre, and checked each junction signpost!)

Suisse Normande

We can easily add some additional roads to avoid the boring D562, like this...

Suisse Normande Additional

(Getting excited now!)
