Since 1998 when my Exide torquestarter died again (3rd in 5 years) I have been using bog standard 063 batteries on mine, the type you can get from any factors. They come in various ratings, I use one that has a decent capacity. In those 16 years I have had 3, the current one has been on 5 years now. They cost about £35 to £40 each time. I accept they are a bit heavier than these super duper race ones and also need a bit more space but they are totally reliable for years and when a replacement is required its as easy as going down to your local factors.

If the extra weight worries you put a little less fuel in the tank, don't wear socks, eat less pies etc.

I replaced my Banner with a Powervamp which I got through 7speed. Worth the extra imo.

I use an ultramax NP20-12, cost about £32 on ebay here

You can get the Powervamp PVR25 a lot cheaper here for £40

The smaller capacity batteries will struggle to start a tuned high compression motor.

Powervamp and Seven Speed would not recommend that battery in a 7.

Well you wouldn't expect another manufacturer, or someone who sells alternative products, to recommend it would you!

I'm just giving my experience of using one in a seven for about 4 years so far, and offered my recommendation to the OP as they didn't want to spend a lot.

In my experience, you get what you pay for at the end of the day.
With Seven Speed, i have tried to source the best British products were possible.
I offer the PVR25 because thats what was recommended by the experts at Powervamp who know far more about batteries than i do.

You have to consider all the engine options across the 7's various power plants.

Anyway we know our option works on everything and has been tried and tested without issue.

The biggest problem is owners not looking after their batteries.

Very true most of the time but why would you want to spend £100 + pounds on a battery that is slightly lighter and smaller than a 063 and costs £60 more.

My £40 063's last at least 5 years (work it out, 3 in 17 summers and the 3rd is still going strong). Based on that I think I am getting exactly what I paid for.

For these special batteries to be worth the extra money they would have to last 12 years or more, bet they don't.

But since in the current 7 world every gram counts using a battery that weighs a little more just will not be acceptable.

Having a car that starts reliably is far more important than saving a few grams, having a nice and shiny lightweight battery is not going to impress that many people when you are sat at the side of the road.

I use the banner, as suggested at the beginning of this thread, and it works perfectly.

It's been a very good battery
