The Sygic app has just been updated, and with it new, updated, maps.
Everyone on the Douro Valley Tour needs to make sure they have the latest updates and maps, so we remain in-sync!
Do not leave it until we are on the ferry!!!

Will be using the old Android backup (drunk phone) for the trip and leaving the Iphone at home. Have deleted the maps and downloaded the new ones. Yep big files so do at home.

Have an Android phone (could never get your cast-off to work Eugene) to use as my Nav unit (and my iPhone for telecoms and sounds) so will make sure it is up-to-date.

Forgive my ignorance but being a devout fruit based user I know nothing about Android phones, I assume I can use any brand of Android phone provided it is version 4.0.3 & above? Samsung S5's are looking pricy used, even on ebay but LG have a £60 pay as you go phone on EE it also has GPS.

Fruit-based user Westside...? I assume you're not the remaining Blackberry user; Eugene is upset enough that I use an iPhone, let alone you too...!

v17.4.8 here too
Was using it the other day on a run 'Op Norf', and did have a weird bug...
The blue route line went a bit strange, and was starting about a mile or so ahead of my actual location.
But, the 'turn instructions', and the 'turn arrows' were all correct.
Eventually, when I went a bit 'off-route' the recalculation fixed the blue route line.
I guess closing the app, and re-starting would do the same.
Just for info, should this happen to you...

Eugene, surprised you've not seen that before, it happened to me a couple of times last year. Reboot does the trick. Sygic is now much better at detecting when it's having a wobble, and politely asks if you want to restart. This probably isn't giving new Android/Sygic users much confidence!

Is that simply closing the app and restarting it or a full BRS reset (for those that remember the original IBM PC)...?

Closing the app and restarting usually does the trick, very rare to need ctrl-alt-delete. When you restart the app, it will ask "continue with route?". How often will this happen? -- About once per day (on a long all-day route) for my Samsung A3; I think Eugene gets much better performance than this. Totally unacceptable that paid-for software crashes at all; if it were my software company I'd be hitting the roof (as I used to do!).
