Thanks chaps...

Armadillo - you know exactly what aeroscreeners wear when it's raining - grimaces!

I have a D3O hat I wear if I need any head protection in the car (couldn't feel a thing when I put it on in the hailstorm) and have a general dislike of hoods... I prefer to wear a coat and a hat rather than a coat with a hood but as Eugene says, there are times when having a hood can be useful.

Course I was talking about waterproofs... to avoid hail I'd say a Davida which Le Presidente strongly recommends

Is it, by any chance, a Ribcap?

Nope... mine (got what with side flaps and abeanie) were, think, made by Ignite... but don't seem to be available any more.
