Thinking about or Spanish Wine Tour... whilst the tour was great, Valladolid was a bit dull... a nice central square with bars around it but I don't recall much else in its favour... so one night there would probably make sense.

Driving through town

Sorry to pry, you are all much more experienced on long journeys than I will ever be but I would like to say a thing or two to avoid possible future trouble and frustration.

1st - I don't advise taking Sevens to Porto. You can take a train from Regua, if you are staying there, and go to Porto by train. Porto is a tricky city to park the Sevens and go around in them.

2nd - You can have wine tastings in the farms where the wines are really made in "C area" and small river boat trips.

3rd - Also, it's obvious that I am not looking at the map/roads themselves but it looks that between B and C you "dangerously" get close to cities like Braga or Guimaraes and demoraphics here don't let you enjoy the cars. If you are thinking of entering Portugal at Portela do Homem, then I would enter there, and follow Vieira do Minho - N304 to Rossas - N205 to Cabeceiras de Basto - go to the N312 and go up Monte Farinha / Sra. da Graca - Go down to Mondim de Basto and follow the N304 to Vila Real (worth every mile) see link...

I doubt many will actually go into Porto...
Most of us avoid any town/cities.

It's not just wine tasting, ideally it's finding somewhere we can stay, have wine and food, without having to drive anywhere

And no, we will not be going anywhere near Braga or Guimaraes, etc. - but will checkout your suggestions.
We have been looking at entering Portugal via the N103, and down the R311, and N210, N101...

Monte Farinha / Sra. da Graca - Mondim de Basto and N304 to Vila Real is likely to be a blatt on the day-off

Hey guys... we (so me, in reality...) may have made a bit of an error in calculating the days required to do the whole trip!
We seem to have at last one day in-hand, based on what I thought were going to be 1-night stops...

Great work Steve and all . Suggestions all look good so far. Happy to miss the over night at the Bounty and drop off on the way for a pint of pride. Last night at the Chateau nice, (ummm maybe avoid the after dinner drinkies...). Round 2 with uncle on the Piano anyone?

This is the latest state of planning... in more detail.
Comments?

We could add a another 1-night stop, and reduce the average daily driving mileage, shifting the stop locations as needed.
That 'could' mean 1 night at Le Bounty on Sunday 8th???

Brill! (assuming these have already been TeaBagged - or the equivalent - otherwise we should expect another 20%+ per day! )

More than happy, as I think you were suggesting, for say, on the 5th, 6th and 7th, rather than covering 225, having a day off and then 210, to do three days of late starts, a leisurely 150-odd miles, which could accommodate a luncheon stop, a late afternoon beer and still have us arriving at the destination early doors and one night at each (realise that adds to the admin, as would need to find more place to stay!)

but as Hedge intimated / the yoof of today say: "whatever" - will be happy with the plan!

Sat here with Uncle Albert. and we have been looking at the same...

Making the nights of the 7th, 8th, & 9th one-nighters...
We're also looking at having the night of the 7th near Roger & Barbara Swift's place!

The mileage per driving day would then be about 180m to the Swiftt's, then 170m to the next night's stop, and 180m to the last night stop at Le Chateau...
Easy to do, with a decent lunch stop, and early arrival at the B&B/Hotel/Chateau...

Thoughts?

Looks great to me

Roger & Barbara's drum looked big enough to accommodate us all!

(ditto combining the 28th, 29th and 30th into legs with a single night...?)

No bloody way!
We need, and want, days off to relax and enjoy the local scenery/bars/restaurants!

This is a suggested route, with the nights of the 7th, 8th, & 9th one-nighters, and a stopover with the Swifts...
