thread ?

We seemed to have got to the point where everyone had agreed that we can all get along nicely, and then the thread disappears!

Indeed - in discussion and in agreement with the original poster the thread was removed.
It was going nowhere, and as you say, I think we are all making progress to just getting 'along'.

Removing threads is not something that is done normally (and this was the first, and hopefully last time), but this was a case where we all seemed to be in agreement.
Had the OP wanted to keep the thread it would have remained.

Hope that makes sense.

We have also added the ability for participants to delete their own posts now (within 1 day of posting).
It is possible we may extend that time-out, and even allow OPs to delete threads they start, but I need to do some database work for that - and I'm not sure how easy it will be, or what impact it may have on the database.

But, we do want the participants to effectively be in control of the forum content.

bizzare, why delete a thread if everyone posting on reaches an agreement

I seem to recall on that thread you said only one thread had been deleted from pistonbroke, but it seems there is another one, so I was going to suggest to the anti-blatchat folks that it's not just blatchat that removes threads. kinda ironic that when i came to post that on here, that thread had gone as well

Yeah, that was a second thread deleted on PH - I really do not get their reasons???
Ho-hum - that's the way it is.

Nothing to do with 7-DNA though - just because it had 'items for sale'.No thread has been removed for mentioning 7-DNA (or having links to 7-DNA)
But that has happened a number of threads on BC - and as I say I have an e-mail discussion with 'the team' that states that as being their position on 7-DNA.
However, it does seem that is being relaxed now, and I'm happy about that - there really is no 'competition' here.

As I said about 7-DNA - we may well allow thread starter to delete their own threads...
Saves us having to do it for them when requested.
But, there may be an impact on the database - so not sure if I can do it yet.
We'll see.

But this is a forum to be managed by the participants - not a 'team making rules'.

I think having the delete your own posts is handy, we have all I am sure posted stuff perhaps when drunk or rather angry, I know I have !!!!, and maybe giving the member a day or two grace period to either sober up or calm down before deciding what was written will stay or go, having a feature like that should help with the typical forum issues that are bound to crop up at times..... I deleted a few of my own only just yesterday on here simply to tidy the thread up, so it can be useful in other ways as well..

I dont think it's the occasional mentioning that was or is the problem, as there have been quite a few threads doing that that haven't been removed, but it was what seemed to be concerted "gorilla" promotion of this forum on theirs.
I guess if you don't keep plugging / mentioning 7DNA at every opportunity then it'll be ok.

The bulk buy thread I thought started very well with no reference to 7DNA; shame you didn't keep that up and just post a list of those who'd signed up at that point, instead of linking to 7Dna for the list, as i think if you keep pushing when you know its not welcomed they might react again. just my thoughts fwiw

I'm not sure that will be long enough

There has never been 'gorilla' marketing - there has never been a need or desire - that has mainly been from others posting their own views/comments, which generated a whole sub-set of posts.
Hopefully that will stop now.
The decision by 'the team' to ban mention of 7-DNA was a long time back... and to be fair, a couple tried to fight that as it made no sense at all.
Hopefully, with things calming down that will be in the past.

Managing two list was not going to work - people are still adding names... keeping two lists accurate is not something I can be bother with.
My decision to make life simple for me we to link to the list here.
Made perfect sense to me!
Next time I'll have the list on BC and link to it form here... same difference.

ah i didn't mean managing two live lists, just that you posted "All names added - the present list can be seen here" with a link to 7dna.

As i'm sure you realised that would mean people would have to go and look at this forum to check their name, whereas simply posting a copy of "the present list" on blatchat would have been easier for their readers to check, and not forced them to look at this forum.

Thats kind of what i mean by gorilla marketing, repeatedly linking and "mentioning" this forum is only likely to aggravate the situation, and i think you're well aware of that

I do like the smilies on here though

The list is still changing - and I just can't be bothered to manage two versions of it.
There is no 'gorilla' marketing at work - that's down to the individual's imagination I guess...

As for other links - what links?

firstly, I love 'gorilla' marketing .. may just catch on! Steve, I think you should take on board what Bernie is saying .. you're being a little disingenuous here I think. I'm sure all of us here would like 7-DNA to succeed, and (most?!) of us would like it to be in addition to, and not instead of Blatchat, both have their place and the world is certainly big enough to accommodate them.

But rockinjv, that's what I'm saying... 7-DNA has never been intended to be an alternative to the 7 Club (or any other club).
For me personally comparing to BC is not relevant. Apples and oranges. One is only open to paying club members - one is open to all.
It's not fair to compare them.

So how am I being disingenuous exactly?
And please do remember I just do the 'technology for the forum - I don't manage it!

No threads here so far have been particularly controversial. Not sure if I'm happy or sad about that. I'm sure one will be along soon though
