I've just fitted a 1960s Moto-Lita woodrim wheel on the SV. This involved making up a centre to adapt it to a Life-line quickly detachable hub. It's a 13" wheel, the OE Momo was 11", but I can still get in easily enough, and if it had been a problem, of course, it's a seconds work to remove it. These were often fitted to Loti and Caterhams in the 60s and 70s. The Momo was bent and had play in the hub....originally I intended to fit a non QD hub but in fact I managed to remove the play in the splines by centre-punching the centre of the flats in 4 positions on the male splines on the column. I'm sure this wheel would look more at home with the OE 70s chrome rimmed dials with black faces, but I like it anyway.... I'd have liked to find an Astrali but couldn't. The Astrali company was started by Roger Swift, ex President of the UK Lotus Seven Club, now living in France.....he used a very interesting technique for making the rims....much more labour intensive! An Astrali (from Bonhams catalogue....) it's got a fatter rim, made of laminated mahogany. Strewth! Just noticed my 'missing' offset fine-nosed pliers in the pax footwell! Excellent... So....what next? I'm thinking Brooklands aero-screens, flying jacket, leather flying helmet thingy and goggles....The Swiss Look. But no polished 15" Prisoner wheels please. Also Caterham CSR nosecone 'chin' and those crazed looking canards....gotta keep from taking off! Maybe some proper CSR beer-table front wings....but NOT CF....white pearl to match the car 'Suits YOU, sir! Suits you!' Maybe.
