Yes, 5 progression holes.
I have all the parts except the chokes but a friendly local 7 owner has some 36's waiting for me to try
I'll try them before the Throckmorton trundle next weekend, so fingers crossed...
Thanks again.

Ok - hopefully the jets will help
But, you may be in need of a better map in reality...

Time to get an Omex 200 possibly?

Had 40's and 45's on my x-flows and never had an issue. Roger King fitted Weber Alpha 2D ignition to my last x-flow (all steel 1800 175bhp sprint/hillclimb engine) and the difference was significant, much better flexibility and economy but since a power run was carried before and after fitting we know that there was no change to max power. For the record mpg improved from about 20 mpg to nearer 24 mpg, approx 20% better but doing only about 2000 miles a year at todays prices it would take over 4 years to recoup the £400 the kit cost, 8 years if you add in the extra parts needed and a mapping session.

When I fitted the Silvertop Zetec I used the 45's and a Weber Alpha 3D ECU (a different one from the x-flow). It ran fine with only 3 progression holes and did about 25 mpg. Pretty happy with that considering the engine had about the same power as the x-flow but far better drivability. Only had that engine on fuel injection for about 3 months before fitting the Blacktop but the drivability was much better around town and the mpg improved to 29 mpg, 16% better. The exact same injection kit on the Blacktop has managed 30.6 mpg over the past 5 1/2 years with the only difference being a slightly tweeked map.

So would I advise anyone to fit injection instead of carbs. Basically yes since the car does run better and since the number of "good" mechanics who can tune Webers correctly has dwindled to virtually zero its far easier to get the car running correctly But if you think the extra fuel economy will pay for the conversion forget it. When I converted in 2005 it cost me just about £2000 and that was doing all the work myself. The kit came with a pre-installed map that was pretty much OK but it did need tweeking (and again when I changed to the Blacktop) and being a serial messer I bought a wideband and did that myself as well. Took time but well worth the effort. At todays fuel prices doing 2000 miles a year it would take 32 years to get the £2000 back.

I can easily get 28 to 30 MGP from Eugene on Carbs...
I can also easily get it down to 17 MPG

It all depends on the mood I'm in!

And as I say, drivability around town is great, with the new map.

But, when I originally had the old 3 progression hole carbs it was next to impossible to get town drivability decent.
Changing to 5 hole made a huge difference.

But, I do have a large selection of jets, and have fine-tuned the settings over a number of years...
(And that's half the fun - along with tweaking the map).
